Staying with a Host Family is an ideal way to experience a new way of life and to improve all aspects of your English language communication.

Friendly, helpful families will make your stay in NZ more enjoyable and enrich your cultural experience while helping you to practice and improve your English.

Host families have been selected for their interests, friendliness, safe neighbourhoods, convenience to transportation, and comfortable homes. All homes offer you a private bedroom, three meals a day, and access to shared TV, telephone, and laundry. The host family is not required to offer Internet access, but most would.

The Accomodation Coodinator is available to discuss any concerns in order to make sure your stay in New Zealand is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Homestay Rules

- Each family has its own house rules regarding smoking, alcohol consumption, student responsibilities, cleaning, security, noise, friends visiting, telephone use, meal times, etc. Discuss these with your family.

- Most NZ families do not allow smoking in their homes. Some allow smoking outside the house. Please inform us if you smoke and check your booking before arriving.

- Please try to discuss any requests or problems you have with your family. Contact HELA if you need assistance. Students are relocated if complaints are justifiable.

- The type of meals you receive from your host family should be nutritious and of resonable quality. If you have any concerns regarding allergies you should make a note of your requirements before deciding on a host family as some host families may not be able to accomodate your needs. If you have concerns about the quality of the food you are being served, you should bring this to the attention of the Accomodation Coordinator.
