We know that you have many options on where to study, and we think that HELA separates itself from the crowd is a number of different ways.
HELA’s English-only policy, friendly environment, exciting activities, and helpful teachers and staff create an atmosphere that supports learning and fun.
● Tutoring Services
We currently offer tutoring services to international students. There are many advantages to using a tutoring service rather than a set course. This allows for flexibility in your schedule, because of work or family commitments, it might not be possible to commit to a course which has attendance requirements and compulsory assessments. Tutoring allows the student to customise their learning based on where they are at, not just what the course has to teach. Students often have restrictions on their time in New Zealand which means taking a course over a set timeframe impractical or impossible - tutoring has no set start or end date.
● Workplace Focussed Learning
One of our main focus areas is English language in the workplace. We understand that in English speaking countries, it can be difficult to find a job without satisfactory English language skills, and we try to get all our students to a point where they feel confident to communicate in the workplace.
In the future we will be running work experience programs where students will be placed in a workplace that relates to the course they have taken at HELA, giving them valuable experience in that industry and in speaking English in a workplace environment.
IMPROVE YOUR COMMUNICATION SKILLS
●Professional and Helpful Teachers
All of our teachers are either native or very experienced English speakers who have taught English for many years, in New Zealand and around the world. Our teachers hold qualifications in teaching English, or are enrolled in a teaching qualification which they will complete soon. They are friendly and available to answer your questions.
● Active, Friendly, and International
HELA has been chosen by students from many different countries, with people from all over the world becoming great friends. Break-time games, special events, and social outings stimulate cultural, social, and educational interaction in English.
● Wide Variety of Programs Coming Soon
In the future HELA be able to offer a variety of programs that lead to a qualification. In the meantime, students can utilise tutoring services which means they have a great deal of flexibility with no set start or end dates.
● Fun Friday Activities
Use your English in fun and practical situations during HELA’s Activities on Fridays! By the end of the week, some students are looking to wind down for the weekend, so fridays are quite casual. Students can review content from the week, play some games, join in on competitions, watch a movie, and on occasion we will go out and enjoy what Hamilton has to offer, maybe visiting the gardens, a chocolate factory, go swimming or we will take suggestions from students on where they want to go. Once a month there will be an opportunity for students to travel outside of Hamilton with the group, alternating between a free trip (example: going to the beach), or a trip that costs money (example: Hobbiton, Rotorua, Auckland, etc)
